a day of blue 🌊✨
What comes to mind when you think of the color blue? It is the color of the vast ocean and sky, often symbolizing serenity, calm, and peace. In that same wave, there are activities we partake in for relaxation and moments of calm. Activities out in the blue, filled with blue.
A day out at Mariner's Wharf in Hout Bay was a testament to this. Families and friends enjoyed the calm beach waves and explored the many stalls and shops at the wharf, surrounded by blue waters, the sky, and the sounds of seals and seagulls.
A cruise into the sparkling blue waters, sailing through scenic mountains to and from a little seal island, made it a day of true serenity. 💦

Inn the most perfect space for a beautiful sunrise ☀️
Alright, let’s talk about the perfect setup for witnessing an absolutely breathtaking sunrise. The kind that makes you stop and just soak it in.
First things first—cloud cover. You don’t want a completely clear sky, but you also don’t want it too cloudy. A mix of high clouds with some gaps near the horizon? That’s the sweet spot. It lets the sunlight play with the clouds, creating those stunning colors.
Next, visibility. The clearer, the better. High visibility means you get the full effect of the sunrise, with colors stretching across the sky. And for that, good weather conditions help—low humidity, light winds, and a high-pressure system work in your favor.
Location is key. You want an unobstructed view to the east—whether it’s a hilltop, a beach, or an open plain. If you’re lucky, recent rain can add a little drama to the sky with textured clouds.
But honestly, nothing beats watching that glowing orb rise in full view—seeing the sun emerge from the horizon as the world slowly wakes up. Unlike in our video here, where the hills of Matsulu delay the show just a bit. Still, even from behind the mountains, it’s a sight worth waking up for.

The air we breath makes us see things in the sky! ☁️
The air in the sky makes you see things. Did you know that? The presence of clouds is caused by the warmth or coolness of the air. When air cools, water vapor condenses and forms clouds. But here’s where it gets interesting—clouds mess with our minds. Thanks to humidity and the randomness of nature, clouds turn into accidental masterpieces. It’s called pareidolia—our brain’s way of finding patterns where there aren’t any.
So you’re not just seeing a cloud, you’re seeing a heart, maybe even a flower. Quite rad right?! That puff of white fluff up there can become whatever your brain wants it to be.
The sky becomes a canvas, and our imaginations do the painting.
Honestly, what’s the weirdest shape you’ve spotted? A bird on a skateboard? A slice of pizza? Let’s hear it—cloud-gazing stories are underrated fun.

Birds eating their behind? 🪶
So you catch this bird going in with its beak at its behind, just going on and pecking its behind. Okay wait, it is not actually eating its behind. Instead, it could be doing one of these things. It’s grooming—yeah, giving itself a proper clean-up.
Birds do this to keep their feathers in good shape, remove annoying parasites, and stay ready for smooth flying or staying warm. But here’s the cool part: did you know birds can actually oil themselves? Some have special oil glands near the base of their tail. They’ll peck there to get a bit of that oil, then spread it across their feathers for waterproofing and shine. Basically, bird spa day. And sometimes... they’re not doing it for hygiene at all. Sometimes, they're just bored or stressed and need something to do. Relatable, right? So next time you see that, don’t judge. It's self-care… or just vibes.

Gazing at the illusion of the moon 🌕...
You might have watched the moon rise before, like the moments when it has JUST ascended from the horizon. You’ve probably noticed how much bigger it is? And sometimes more colourful… well… truth is, your mind made all that up. Yup, it’s all an illusion. The Moon illusion is an optical trick where the Moon appears larger near the horizon than when it’s higher in the sky. That’s because we’re seeing it next to buildings, trees, and other grounded objects—so it feels closer, even though it’s not.
Once the Moon climbs higher, surrounded by the empty sky, it seems smaller. But once you’ve moved past the illusion, something else kicks in: moon gazing. A quiet, simple act that’s oddly calming. Some even say it helps with sleep, focus, and tuning into your intuition. Sound far-fetched? Maybe. But try it. Notice how you feel. The only way to know if it works for you… is to look up.
