Can shrimp be albino? Then why is it white? 🦐
White shrimp aren’t albino—they're just naturally pale. Known as white shrimp, snow white shrimp, or golden shrimp, these crustaceans are often mistaken for albino due to their color, but they’re a legitimate species, not a pigment-deficient outlier. The white shrimp, also called King prawn, is native to the eastern Pacific Ocean and is widely farmed or harvested for food.
Shrimp come in a full palette: red cherry, yellow, blue velvet, blue pearl, snowball, rili, green, black rose, and even pink. Each type has its own flavor profile. Pink shrimp are slightly sweeter with a soft, buttery texture. White shrimp? Still sweet, but milder and firmer.
So while true albino shrimp might exist, the white ones you’re seeing are no anomaly. They’re just part of the shrimp spectrum. No need to judge—variety is natural, and every shrimp has its place on the plate.
